Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling of buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines
And often is his golden complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives to life to thee.


내 그대를 한여름날에 비겨볼까?
그대는 더 아름답고 더 화창하여라.
거친 바람이 5월의 고운 꽃봉오리를 흔들고,
여름의 기한은 너무나 짧아라.
때로 태양은 너무 뜨겁게 쬐고,
그의 금빛 얼굴은 흐려지기도 하여라.
어떤 아름다운 것도 언젠가는 그 아름다움이 기울어지고
우연이나 자연의 변화로 고운 치장 뺏기도다.
그러나 그대의 영원한 여름은 퇴색하지 않고,
그대가 지닌 미는 잃어지지 않으리라.
죽음도 뽐내진 못하리, 그대가 자기 그늘 속에 방황한다고
불멸의 시편 속에서 그대 시간에 동화되나니.
인간이 숨을 쉬고 볼 수 있는 눈이 있는 한
이 시는 살고 그대에게 생명을 주리.
